At the margins of the G7 summit à Biarritz, France, la Chancelière Angela Merkel (65, CDU) guaranteed one billion euros for the next three years to the Global Fund dedicated to fighting infectious diseases such as le SIDA, le paludisme et la tuberculose.
Rock star Bono (59) from the U2 applauded and thanked the Chancellor. Bono, co-founder and activist of the development organization “One”, dit à l’IMAGE: “Thank you, la Chancelière Merkel, thank you Germany, for standing strong in the fight against AIDS. Your support for the Global Fund has helped save millions of lives, and with this new pledge you will help save millions more in the years to come.”
Bono has long been engaged in the Global Fund, which was founded en 2002, and he met la Chancelière Angela Merkel en Août of 2018. He told IMAGE: “If we are honest, the fight against these killers has recently become a challenge in a world skeptical of multilateralism. A successful Global Fund reconstitution in October will not only keep hope alive for millions of people living with le SIDA, la TUBERCULOSE et le Paludisme, it will keep hope alive for international co-operation and our shared values which face recherche challenging times. That would be a victory for common sense as well as the common good.”
