the Swedish church books, estate inventories and other historical documents are now available digitally. It has made it easier than ever to look for its roots in the Swedish archives.

– We see that the interest in genealogy has become extremely large in recent years. The digitisation of the Swedish archives, has meant a huge change. In the day you can sit at home and conduct a large part of their research,  » says Thomas Fürth.

He is president of the Genealogical association, a nationwide association of family history which was founded in 1933.

would like to know a little more about his family back in time – how do you start? Thomas Fürth think a good idea is to start with what you have closest around him. The archives are still there, but people disappear.

– Bring up all pictures, documents and perhaps the school report that is left of the old relatives. And don’t forget to talk with relatives and others who still are in life. They can help to identify people on old photographs,  » he says.

Then you can start to browse in the Swedish kyrkoarkiven. Finland and sweden have through their old records of the church a unique opportunity to access personhistoria. Where cartoon the priests down when members of the congregation, was born, married and died. Church records are the basis for all of the family history.

– You buy it as a usb memory and then have access to information about all the people that died between 1860 and 2014,  » he says.

Based on the dödboken you can then look further to the said lists of births, baptisms, marriages, and death.

There are several good computer programs – both free and paid applications – to build their own family tree and document their sources.

All of this has been facilitated since the national Archives following a government decision earlier this year opened its digital study hall everybody is welcome for free use by the general public. So now anyone with a computer, tablet or mobile sit at home on the couch and vacuuming the archives of distant relatives.

It was the mormons who started to microfilm the Swedish church records in the 1940s. According to their belief, they should look up ancestors and baptized them into the mormon church.

It has led to the world’s largest släktforskningsarkiv and the library is in Salt Lake City.

they got access to the church records gave the mormons a copy of everything they filmed in Sweden, to the national Archives.

It is a digitisation of the mormonfilmerna which is now made available to the public in Sweden. More than one hundred million pages from the Swedish archives are digitized.
